Film Description
The United States is currently anything but united. Hate crimes are up, political violence is on the rise, and polarization is becoming so extreme that it is causing people to get sick. Yet some leaders are emerging who are showing us how to fix the broken parts of our system and bring our country back together.
One such leader comes from the place you’d least expect – the U.S. prison system. Former warden Jackie Crawford has cracked the code on transforming prison culture and is shifting the narrative on what true leadership looks like.
Her bold approach has consistently shut down violence, improved workplace conditions, and won public support by doing one powerful thing – creating psychological safety for officers and incarcerated people. In spaces where people are literally and figuratively at each other’s throats, Warden Jackie has created environments where all humans feel responsible for each other – no matter what side of the fence they sit on. This has resulted in better mental health, lower recidivism, reduced tax payer dollars, safer society, and a more just community for those inside and outside of the gates.
A Different Kind of Justice takes viewers on a journey to better understand how Jackie’s leadership has helped our most volatile institutions transform. Along the way, it demonstrates how her leadership style can serve as a roadmap to uniting our polarized nation.
